Captain’s Blog:
Welcome to my blog-mare! I’ve been doing traffic at WIL 92.3 for nearly 18 years. What can I say, I know a sweet gig when I see one. If not for the quality and friendship of the greatest staff in radio, I could never have enjoyed such longevity. In this business it’s hard to find such talented people to work with who are also quality people, and friends.
I was given the name Captain Mac by a man who appeared to me on a flaming pie and pronounced “You will hearby be known as Captain Mac Douglas.”
I spent 11 years in Chopper 5, otherwise known as the WIL-icoptor. I’ve flown with the best, Alan and Rich Barklege, who I miss very much, and Bill Houska, current Chopper 5 pilot and a true bud.
Upon the arrival of Cornbread at WIL, I came out of the sky and into the studio to meet a different challenge. I’ve been given more opportunity to display my personality and songwriting skills, which I appreciate very much.
Besides WIL’s morning show, I also work the afternoons with Bo Matthews. What can I say? It’s like we grew up together on the air. I’ve known Bo for 17 years now and we remain thick as thieves.
As loyal listeners well know, I also work weekends and have done my share of overnight shifts.
In my spare time, which is precious (and way too spare), I write and record in the studio under my stage name, Paul Ford. For more information on my music, check out www.myspace.com/paulford9 and www.brickhouseacoustics.com.
After way too many years in the wilderness, I have finally found love with my sweet Shelly and enjoy spending as much time as possible with her and the boys.
I would be remiss if I did not thank you, the kind listener, for the many hours we’ve spent together — and I look forward to many more.
See you on the radio!
Captain Mac
