Chambers “Battle of the Meteorologists” Acceptance VIDEO

Matt Chambers (KMOV) won Cornbread’s Battle of the Meteorologists last week. See his acceptance speech video here. Matt’s snowfall prediction was 7.8″ which was closer than Scott Connell (KSDK) who underestimated the storm with a prediction of 5.9.” Total accumulation at Lambert was 8.4.”

Scott Connell did offer a number of weather storm nuggets of information (or excuses as to why he didn’t win, depending on how you look at it).

Scott Connell’s Nuggets of Snow

“Elsah, IL had 6” of snow and Grafton had 11.3” It’s only 4.24 miles from Elsah to Grafton! Snowbands and thundersnow make for some wild variations.”

“I haven’t driven in snow like I had to right after midnight since I was on the Maine turnpike in 1990. It was that bad!”

“The weather service in Weldon Spring had 3” of snow in 1 hour around midnight. It just doesn’t get any heavier than that in this part of the country.”

“The total liquid equivalent was .62” and using the standard 10 to one conversion of snow to liquid, it would have been 6.2”, but it was more like a 13 to one ratio.” Translation: the snow was fluffier than normal and if it had been more wet, Scott would have won.

“The heaviest snow band slipped 20-30 miles farther north than I expected.”

“Congrats to Matt Chambers. He’s a nice guy.”
