The much anticipated St. Louis County property assessments went public Tuesday and this year, the median county wide home value has dropped about 9 percent. While that is good news, remember that in ’07, the median property value had shot up 22 percent! Since over half of the assessment goes right to the school district, they’re now faced with a dilema….taxing families the same amount in the midst of this economic downturn, or accept the lower tax collections and cut their budgets.
