Rebuilding Together-St. Louis is participating in HGTV’s Change the World campaign. St. Louis is one of eight cities competing for $40,000 to help repair a veterans’ transitional home. The two cities with the most votes cast through HGTV’s website will win the money for the renovation of the home and the renovation will be televised on HGTV. Rebuilding Together-St. Louis selected Hence J. Forland and Windsor Transitional Home for the St. Louis project.
Veteran Hence J. Forland helps other veterans. After completing his army service, Forland started working at the John Cochran Veterans’ Administration Medical Center. During his 26 years at the VA Medical Center, Forland noticed the need for transitional housing for homeless veterans. Forland, determined to change the lives of his fellow service men, bought a home in St. Louis City with the intent of fixing it up and providing an emergency shelter and room and board for veterans in need. That home became Windsor Transitional Home.
Veterans at Windsor Transitional Home have a place to sleep, but they do not have a kitchen sink, a shower, an upgraded electrical system or enough storage among other crucial things every home should have.
Windsor Transitional Home needs assistance to provide its veterans with a safe, warm and dry environment.
Rebuilding Together-St. Louis needs you to vote everyday from January 1, 2009 until March 2, 2009. Vote and help Mr. Forland and Rebuilding Together-St. Louis achieve its goal; to help veterans in St. Louis.
