Home Remedy NO NOs

We all have our home remedy favorites…passed down from generation to generation…some are good and some are very bad. I ran across these home remedy no no’s on AOL last night.

For cuts, we like to pour on a little hydrogen peroxide…it sure does foam up. Actually, peroxide is good for those times when the skin isn’t broken…but when it is, hydrogen peroxide can damage the skin tissue…it’s best to clean a cut or wound with regular h2o.

using whiskey for teething babies..yep, that’s an old wives tale gone wrong for obvious reasons. The best thing to help reduce the pain is plain old ice.

butter for burns sounds good, but use butter on your biscuit or corn on the cob. The best remedy is to use the gel from an aloe plant.

Yellow mustard takes the sting out of sunburns…they say this is a no no and to use over the counter products designed for treating sunburns, but I’ve heard white vinegar does wonders…and isn’t vinegar in mustard? The best treatment is actually to pretreat your skin with sunscreen and to be careful when you’re out in the sun in the first place.
