Over the weekend we found out some Rams players wrote and signed a petition in support of interim Head Coach Jim Haslett. He is popular with the players for his passionate and consistent personality. The team was just 2 and 10 under Haslett, so the young owners (Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez) will have to talk themselves into retaining a coach that already could not correct the current problems.
New General Manager Billy Devaney and Haslett communicate well and have very similar philosophical approaches to the game, so the cards aren’t totally stacked against Haslett.
A large number of young players received opportunities to perform in the NFL because of Haslett’s desire to ‘do what’s best for the organization.’ One of those players was linebacker Quintin Culbberson. “Q” had something of a break out season and desires that Haslett would return. I spent a couple of minutes with the former free agent and you can listen to that brief chat by clicking on the appropriate tab above.
The Rams hold the second pick in the upcoming draft, so Devaney and the scouting staff have their work cut out for them. The winless Detroit Lions choose first and the Kansas City Chiefs (2-14 like the Rams) will pick third.
Do Good.
