Yes it’s a season of change in our country and now in Ram Nation as the St. Louis football team introduced their new head coach. While it is historic that Barak Obama is becoming the first African-American President, it may be just as radical that the Rams have signed their first Massachusettes native Steve Spagnuolo as a head coach. Which is a more radical change?
Coach Spagnuolo is a no-nonsense kind of guy with a very real appreciation for loyalty, hard work, passion and character. His hope is to instill some toughness and unity to a pretty disfunctional Ram family. “Spags” as he’s called by his friends is not flashy but he is impressive. His toughness and intensity are obvious when you’re talking to him. The former New York Giants’ defensive coordinator is a long time friend of Rams General Manager Billy Devaney and the two of them hold similar visions for the way the Rams are to be built.
Monday, I sat down with Coach Spagnuolo and found him to be personable, funny and genuinely interested in the players, staff and future of the Rams organization. He and wife Maria are very ‘down-to-earth’ types and want to give back to the St. Louis community.
