Have ya heard of Goldieblox? The commercial went viral (see below), but I think it needs a little bit of a reminder, nonetheless. Goldieblox is a toy company who create “Toys for future innovators” GoldieBlox, is a toy company out to show the world that girls are more than just “princesses” and they want to inspire the next generation of female engineers. Goldieblox makes construction toys for girls built from the female perspective. It all started with a female engineer, an idea, and kickstarter, and perhaps you saw the Superbowl 2014 commercial for it:
What if there was a commercial with boys playing with non-traditional “boy” toys, like, Barbie dolls? do you think it would be as acceptable? AND, this one dad tried to do what HE saw on the Goldieblox Ad with his kids:
What have you ever tried out that “failed” from the internet? Name it, my son Leo has probably tried it. A tazer made out of an old camera, a golf ball fake fart toy…..
You might’ve heard yesterday about Facebook forking over more of their millions in the acquisition of Oculus Rift. (The Oculus Rift is an upcoming virtual reality head-mounted display that got millions from kickstart, just like the Goldieblox above!) Well, the creator of the very popular Minecraft games, says he is actually cancelling the Oculus Minecraft version, according to Theverge.com. In his words: “I definitely want to be a part of VR, but I will not work with Facebook,” wrote Persson. “Their motives are too unclear and shifting, and they haven’t historically been a stable platform. There’s nothing about their history that makes me trust them, and that makes them seem creepy to me.” WOW!
And speaking of Kickstart. What would YOU want to fund? I’m happy to say that buddah Doodles is almost here! Don’t know what that is? Check out the Kickstart campaign that was successful and the app on its’ way:
