Did we name it too soon!

by Captain Mac

This morning on the Cornbread show, we were talking about people naming streets after Barak Obama already before he assumes office. This got me thinking about Some of the Highways around St. Louis (I am a traffic reporter after all! lol). After the 1998 baseball season, our town re-named Highway 70 from the Mark Twain Expressway to the Mark McGwire expressway. This was years before the steroid scandal in baseball. I have heard some people say we renamed it too soon. The whole town was flush with excitement after the record breaking home run race in 98, and our guy was the hero. I will always remember that last week-end of the season. A pilot friend and co-worker was killed in an accident, and I was feeling pretty low. McGwire (if I recall it right) Hit 4 homers in the last weekend of the season to set (temporarily) the single season home run record. It really helped to lift my spirits and pride in my hometown. All will always appreciate Big Mac for that. And, his name is Mac, which I also think is pretty cool! I don't mind that we have a Highway named after him. What do you think????
