My wife and I had the pleasure of seeing my favorite musical at the Fabulous Fox last night. The production quality of the 2009 production of RENT is virtually flawless. Two of the leads from the original broadway production are part of this years visit and add a special ingredient that was spot on. Mark Cohen played by Anthony Rapp and Roger Davis played by Adam Pascal were as good as I remember.
For those of you who are planning to go this week, but are not familiar with the plot, be warned that the subject matter is not for everyone. Topics in the show include drug use, homosexuality and AIDS. I heard several parents who felt a little uneasy with their teenagers seeing that subject matter. If you can get past that and come with an open mind, it will be blown away by the talent of this crew. The music is simply amazing and the late Jonathan Larson would be proud to see his dream in the early 90s is still as powerful in 2009.
Another bonus... it's at the Fox Theater, my favorite place to see a musical.
DO yourself a favor and check it out.
