The Power of Social Networking

This weekend my wife and I will be in our home town in Northwest Indiana.  It’s class reunion time (this time hers) and I am simply amazed at the power of social networking.

A year ago when I had mine, most of the information received about the reunion was through snail mail and classmates.com  Because there is an associated fee with that site,  most of my classmates had little more than their name and maybe a survey they filled out.

Step ahead one year and my wife’s class reunion is a full-blown coconut telegraph.    One of her classmates is a certified techno geek. They have created a site dedicated to the class that’s free of cost and built out of love. I have to admit, I’ve dabbled in web design (www.backinthepits.com) but her class site is just impressive.  Pictures, stories, e-mail, chat and whether they will be attending.  My wife was a social butterfly in high school and has been in contact with many of her friends already.  Then add to the mix, FaceBook and Twitter and my wife hasn’t missed a beat.

So this looks like a fun weekend.  If you don’t hear me on the radio you will know where I’ll be.  In the conga line dancing at my wife’s reunion.  Cheers Hobart Class of ’79.
