HOW I SPENT MY SUMMER VACATION
One word can be said about the Hobart High School Class of 1979 reunion. AMAZING. I gotta tell you gang, I've been to my share of parties, receptions and soirees. My wife's reunion is now the benchmark by which I will judge all the rest. First off, hello and thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Here it is Thursday and I'm finally writing about my wife's class reunion in Hobart Indiana. We rolled into town on Wednesday and I had a chance to help my father-in-law Jim build some cabinets. He may be 71 years of age, but he is the most amazing carpenter I know of. He hand makes all his furniture and has not missed a beat. He said I was a big help, but truthfully I know he's just being kind. After some obligatory visiting of relatives, Thursday evening we took my nephew Nathan to a Gary-South Shore Railcats/ Schaumburg Flyers Baseball Game. I love going to major league games, but it seems like all the fun is being held at the Grizzlies, Rascals and in last Thursday night's case, Railcat's games. So much more for the fans. We got lucky, the World Famous (San Diego) Chicken put on a show between innings. As I said earlier, the Hobart High School Class of 1979 reunion was simply AMAZING. The organization, decoration, coordination, prizes, amenities and attendance were simply unparalleled. Out of a class of 350 in the class, we had 165 classmates and significant others in attendance (roughly 300 people). My reunion last year paled in comparison. It's like comparing a bottle rocket to the 4th of July celebration under the Arch. I'll keep you in mind to coordinate the blowout for my 50th birthday next year. Enjoy the photos and thanks for checking my blog. -Rik out

He did all the skilled work and I was more of a magician's assistant, giving him the next tool, screws, nuts, bolts, nails, glue etc. We did celebrate with an extra large J&J's pizza. My favorite pizza in the world.

Friday, my father-in-law and I gutted his office/music room and installed all the new cabinetry and hooked the wires back up. That took most of the day. We attended an ice breaker for the class of '79 and it was very well attended. There were so many flashes going off it was like the paparazzi surrounding Paris Hilton. My beautiful bride was right in the middle of everything. We had too much fun.

My brilliant wife booked a room at the hotel where the reunion was and checked in as early as possible. We ran into classmates throughout the afternoon either by the pool, the bars or in the hallways. For a very brief time, I actually got a chance to relax and take a swim in the pool and soak in the hot tub before having to don my fancy duds for the reunion.
