Good Luck from a Bug?

This weekend, a large green visitor decided to set up camp on my patio door.  It was a Preying Mantis, who's overall creepiness was enough to not only startle my two girls, but also gave me a bit of the creeps.  (Actual creepy photo on right)  But before I had a chance to exert my right as a human to flick him into the neighbors yard, my wife said "Don't touch him!  They're good luck!"  I had never heard that before, but after a search on the internet, It became obvious that she wasn't the only one that had heard this.

Next thing I know, my kids have named it "Cha-Cha".

I guess we could all use some good luck, right?  Maybe I need to buy a lottery ticket?

  • They are good in the garden. I've seen the eggs sold at organic garden supply places. (They had them at Worm's World...some had gotten out of the container & had hatched. Little suckers were runnin' around on the counter. The employee said they get as big as whatever they eat.)

What do you think?
