At Michael Hill we believe that jewellery is about far more than just a karat weight of gold, or a collection of diamonds. Long before it even reaches the store, each and every piece has a story behind it, from the way it was designed, to the care put in to crafting it. But, in many ways, the most interesting story of all has yet to unfold. It’s the story that begins with you, how it makes you feel every time you wear it, that special someone it reminds you of or the occasion made unforgettable because of it.

  • When I saw this contest I got MAJOR butterflies. Let me begin by saying on October 15, 2005 I married a wonderful man. On October 8, 2005 we had a pre-wedding arguement. While driving across the Poplar we got into a silly spat-of which I couldn't even tell you the reason and my Engagement ring ended up in the river. After screeching to a stop on highway 44 and running down the highway in shock and dismay we continued our evening and of course had a beautiful wedding. I was so sad that my engagement ring was gone and to this day still get a pain in my gut when I think about the moment that I lost my single most important personal possesion. Since that day, we obviously learned a few things about communicating, :-) and have been happily married. In 2007 we had our first son, and this past February we had a second son. As happy as we are, the empty space on my left finger still causes me a pain in my spirit. I know material objects are not what makes a life worth living, but I would love to have a special object to pass along-which was something I did not have with my mother. The reason we have not replaced the ring is we just haven't had any extra money. Just like many people, the hurting economy has hurt our income. My husband is a handyman and with the economic struggles, rehabbing has just not been a priority for many people. I would be SO grateful for an opportunity to replace the ring I loved so much, more for what it stood for than what it physically was.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I pray I hear from you!
  • My mom bought me a cluster flower ring when I turned 21 we had the best time picking it out and going to lunch she said she wanted to give me something special for this birthday, well she did..but she always made every birthday special..I still the ring and think of her every time I wear it. I have a 16 year old daughter that I plan on giving her the ring when she turns 21 and hope she'll have geat memeries as well. Thanks MOM for everything!!!!!
  • When my husband and I were dating and then decided to be together always, we didn't have a lot of money for jewelry. He did surprise me with a gold heart ring with a small diamond in the middle as a promise ring. I cherish that ring always and after almost 24 years of marriage, I still wear that ring and think of that time.
  • so my boyfriend and i live together we are high school sweethearts. actually i was the one to give him a ring first. we had a romantic date on our one year and i gave him a promise ring under the arch in st.louis missouri, it was amazing. Then he surprised me at work with mine. we made a commitment to eachother that we would have a everlasting friendship and love. He moved to mississippi for work after high school and i was heartbroken. He moved for work in the city, while I was home. I couldnt take it and packed up my life here and moved with him. Now we are back home together and we live together a year later. Everytime I look at my ring I think of the best promise I ever made. Friendship and love cant get any better than that.

  • All my jewelry was received with a very special story behind it. We could have been on vacation, a birth of a child, a proposal, a just because, but they all have a special meaning that I can tell my children about. I love them all and hope that some other couples will make stories with their beautiful gifts of jewelry too.
  • When I was 16, my mom gave me a ring. It contained the diamond out of her engagement ring. The band on her ring had worn through and instead of getting it repaired, she had the diamond reset in a "flower" ring for me. That was almost 40 years ago. I have no children of my own so I am going to pass it on to my nephew's daughter. She is only 5 so I am holding on to it til she turns 16. I hope she in turn passes it on to her daughter. It's probably not worth much in monetary value but the sentimental value is priceless.
