Well, the Government's Cash For Clunkers program is over and there were some big winners and losers in the whole process. For starters, nearly 700,000 cars were traded in or defined as CLUNKERS. The top vehicle purchased during the program was the Toyota Corolla. The Honda Civic followed right behind and so did the Toyota Corolla. Hmm...Gov says to buy new cars to get old cars off the road and stimulate the automobile manufacturers and the winners are foreign owned? The top trade in vehicle just happened to be...the Ford Explorer.
So, the consumer can be labeled as a big winner alaong with Toyota Honda and Ford.....they sold the most cars.
The losers? The Government. They still haven't made good to the dealers on the clunkers. Charity Donation programs faired poorly too. Why? Because when most folks used to donate their old clunkers and get a tax deduction.....they scored bigger by trading their tin lizzies in. And lastly, motorcycle manufacturers. In the beginning of the program, they were to be included in the cash for clunkers, but that part of the program fell through.
