We Race for the Cure every year. What we need to do now is get the news to women across the entire state of Missouri who have no insurance or the means for a mammogram, that there is a program for them.

The Show Me Healthy Women program provides life saving breast and cervical cancer screenings to the under served women across the Great State of Missouri. Awareness of this program is particularly important in our rural communities where the Show Me Healthy Women program may be the only means for a woman to receive these live saving screening services.

Are you a woman between 40 and 64?
Are you not getting your annual mammogram?
Have no insurance or your insurance will not cover a mammogram?

…. If you answered “YES” to these questions or know someone that would, then please STOP and contact Missouri’s Show Me Healthy Women Program, which is in place to assist women across Missouri in gaining access to what can be the life saving early detection of breast cancer.

Macy's will donate $1 per tie with a minimum of $100,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Pink Bears @ Build-a-Bear: Benefits Komen St. Louis

For Breast Cancer Awarness Month Build A Bear has a limited edition Pink Bear with a ribbon on the foot. The bear is $25, with a $5 donation made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure St. Louis. Put a pink or purple heart inside the bear for $1 which is donated in full to Komen St. Louis.

From 10 am - 4 pm Regis Salon will offer $15 haricuts with proceeds benefiting the Regis Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.

Walk for Life & Hope - October 11

The 8th annual Walk for Life & Hope will be held this Saturday, October 11 @ 8am. The event benefits the Life & Hope fund at St. Luke's Hospital.

This fund is run by volunteers at St. Luke's to help cancer patients with co-pays, transportation and other financial support during their cancer treatment.

The walk will be held at the Ladue Chapel, 9450 Clayton Road.

Registration is $25 and includes a T-shirt for all participants.

The Siteman Cancer Mobile Mammography Van Schedule

WIL is teaming up with Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes Jewish Hospital to help provide free mammograms to women who qualify. Below is a list of dates and locations. To schedule your mammogram for the following dates, please call 1-800-600-3606.

The American Cancer Society recommends annual screening mammograms for women beginning at age 40. However, a strong family history of breast cancer or other risk factors, such as a personal history of ovarian cancer or Hodgkin’s disease or a prior breast biopsy that showed high risk, may cause a woman to begin screening at an earlier age. Such individuals should check with their healthcare providers.

The Siteman Cancer Center Mammography Van will perform screening mammograms for women without a written note from their physician if they meet the criteria below:

· Ages 40 years or older

· No mammograms in the past 12 months

· No signs or symptoms of breast cancer (such as lumps or dimpling)

· No breast implants

· No histories of breast cancer

· No current pregnancies

If women are between the ages of 35 and 39, meet the last five criteria above, and have cause to begin earlier screening, they must have a doctor’s written request. Women younger than age 35 cannot be screened on the van.

The examination fee (a portion charged by Barnes-Jewish Hospital for the technical component and a portion charged by Washington University School of Medicine for the professional component) will be direct billed to the patient, her insurance company, or Medicare. Insurance cards should be brought to the appointment.

Volley for the Cure - Staunton High School - October 16

On October 16 the Staunton High School Lady Bulldogs will host Volley for the Cure to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The Lady Bulldogs host Vandalia at 6pm. A $10 donation gets you a ticket into the game and a pink T-shirt.

The Bulldogs need local businesses & individuals to support this effort. For a $25 donation, your name or business will added to the list of sponsors on the back of the T-shirts.

Hershey's Turns Pink for October

Hershey’s Kisses, Hershey’s Nuggets, Hershey’s Syrup, York Peppermint Patties and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Miniatures will feature pink packaging through the month of October to raise awareness for the cause.

Hershey will donate $300,000 to the Young Survival Coalition (YSC) - the premier non-profit network of breast cancer survivors and supporters dedicated to the concerns and issues unique to young women and breast cancer.
