This is, I think the third time it has gone on the ballot, it was voted down the previous two times. I voted no before, and I am voting no again. What happened to personal freedom?? I know it is unhealthy, and don't condone anyone starting to smoke. But I believe it should be up to individual resturaunts to determine what is best for clients. We have become a much more intolerant society. A lot of people believe in freedom, until they disagree with it, then they want it banned for everyone else. Vote no on the Smoking Ban tomorrow!

<![CDATA[Punky Brewster McCracken Bashes St. Louis]]> 8657 Thu, 30 Apr 2009 06:06:45 -0600 I am incensed! Last night on the news I saw a report of some Dweeb in Austin Texas bashing St. Louis! His name is Brewster McCracken and he is running for Mayor of Austin. His whole spot was a smear and fear campaign against St. Louis! Talking about how we were the 4th largest city in the country in 1904 and how far we have fallen. Um....excuse me? Listen Nerdlinger, who the hell do you think you are. HOW DARE YOU! Then I hear our City tourism people want him to come to St. Louis to show him it's not so bad. To heck with that. Keep him out and vote against him Texans! I found the video on youtube. Just put his stupid name in the search engine. I'm chokin on my own rage here! Hey Punky Brewster-Stay outta St. Louis, and I hope you LOSE the election! Go back to Mexico!!!

<![CDATA[Cubsuck]]> 8510 Fri, 24 Apr 2009 07:25:31 -0600 Cubsuck! I have been sayin it since I was knee high to a grasshopper. They truly do! Even my Mom says so. We have a big weekend series with the Cubs, and I will be glued. We need to take our Cardinals Revenge for last weekend in Wrigley. Sure they may beat us, but if they do, I am gonna hold off on eating any Crow until September. Remember, it's not about the Cards-Cubs rivalry, it's about who wins the division, it's about......Championships. Let's do the math. Since 1908.....Cardinals-10 World Series Championships. Cubs.... ZERO! The Math backs me up.....CUBSUCK!

Seriously, thank you all for participating in our little contest this week. Hope you enjoyed my song, and my Mom's call on Tuesday morning. It is all in good fun, and I hope it wasn't too offensive.

GO CARDS!!!!

<![CDATA[Singin the Blues in the Playoffs]]> 8380 Mon, 20 Apr 2009 05:43:31 -0600 My wife Shelly suprised me last week with tickets to last nights Blues Playoff game (I know, she is AWESOME!!). We had a blast. The atmosphere was truly electric!! The crowd and the team were pumped up. Sadly, we could not score on the power play. The Blues were 0-9 on the power play, Vancouver went 3-4. That's pretty much it. Our backs are against the wall now, down 3 games to none in the series. Couple that with the Cards bullpen coughing up two-count em-TWO late game leads to the Cubs (Cubs Suck), it was a very tough weekend for our hometown teams.

<![CDATA[Cramer vs. Stewart ]]> 7492 Thu, 12 Mar 2009 15:40:13 -0600 The media is declaring it a WAR OF WORDS between MSNBC's Jim Cramer and The Daily Show's Jon Stewart, and tonight they square off on the Daily Show. For the past week or so, Stewart's Daily show has been calling out financial broadcasters for failing to sense the urgency of the economic emergency that has gripped the country low these many months. Stewart singled out Cramer and showed clips of him recommending Bear Sterns just weeks before it bottomed out. Cramer Stormed his network buddies shows on NBC, CNBC and MSNBC to defend himself, and Stewart responded with a Dora the Explorer spoof the next day. So tonights showdown should be a grudge match. My Money's on Stewart.......(Howard Cosell voice).....Down Goes Cramer! Down Goes Cramer!! I would put a link to the video on this site, but the material is copyrighted and it is soooooo easy to find on youtube. D'oh, perhaps I've said too much........

<![CDATA[Has American Idol jumped the Shark???]]> 7157 Fri, 27 Feb 2009 07:50:37 -0700 As I watched American Idol last night, I realized it had taken on a been there done that quality. I wished I were watching something else. House, The Simpsons, South Park...anything else. I believe American Idol has jumped the Shark. Are you familiar with the Jump the Shark philosophy??? It originated with Happy Days when Fonzie literally jumped a shark on water skiis. It was at that point many believe the series had seperated from reality. Now it is applied to good shows that have gone bad. After 8 seasons American Idol has Jumped the Shark! We've seen it all before by now. When Randy has to say over and over, "THis is the weirdest season yet." Is it really all that weird? I think not~!

<![CDATA[Shades of 1982? Snow Way Man!!!]]> 6262 Mon, 26 Jan 2009 06:41:26 -0700 With snow and ice in the forecast the rest of this week, this morning on the Cornbread Morning Show, we were remembering the GREAT SNOWSTORM OF 82. By no means do we expect a similar snowstorm this week. If I recall, we had 18 inches overnight, and it happened on a Friday night into a Saturday, so school wasn't a factor. I do recall snow as high as the elephant's eye. People were cross country skiing on the streets and in Shaw Park in Clayton, and sledding EVERYWHERE!!! What do you remember about the Great Snowstorm of '82???

<![CDATA[Smoking Ban on the Ballot Again?!?!? Butt....Butt!?!?!?]]> 6174 Wed, 21 Jan 2009 15:32:21 -0700 Here we go again. A Missouri congressman is introducing a ban on smoking in bars and restraunts statewide-AGAIN! Rep. Joe Fallert, a Ste. Genevieve Democrat, says he does'nt know if the bill will gain traction, but wants to put it before the voters. HELLO! JOE! A similar bill was introduced last year, and never even got a hearing. I have voted against similar bans locally twice and I think Missourians value their freedom of choice. People know what to expect when they go into bars and resturaunts, and many already have no-smoking sections. Illinois has such a ban, and many reports say bars and resturaunts have lost business due to the ban. We can all agree that smoking is a bad habit and should not be encouraged, but businesses should be allowed to decide for themselves whether to allow their patrons to smoke or not. So, say it ain't so Joe! From a Democrat no less! For shame.

<![CDATA[Captains Blog: Make Warcraft not War!!!]]> 5970 Tue, 13 Jan 2009 07:50:08 -0700 Ok I'm gonna admit it.....Let my geek/nerd flag fly.....I am a freak for World of Warcraft!!! To the unschooled, this is an online world where you create a character and try to "level up" Without the world killing you. It's called a Massivly Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG). My fiancee and the kids like to play too. It's fun to get the whole family online and slay huge scary monsters! Over 7 million subscribers can't be wrong! I have a Warrior, Hunter and Druid, my sweetie is a beautiful princess Priestess and the kids have various characters. I usually play on the Aggramar server. Look for Moonlink, Moonhenge, Kalehl and Dianamazon. Some of the characters we play as. I am curious how many WIL listners are also Warcraft freaks like we are. Feel free to chime in Playerz!~or feel free to call me a dork if you want! Ding! Woooooot!!!

<![CDATA[Did we name it too soon!]]> 5954 Mon, 12 Jan 2009 16:33:37 -0700 This morning on the Cornbread show, we were talking about people naming streets after Barak Obama already before he assumes office. This got me thinking about Some of the Highways around St. Louis (I am a traffic reporter after all! lol). After the 1998 baseball season, our town re-named Highway 70 from the Mark Twain Expressway to the Mark McGwire expressway. This was years before the steroid scandal in baseball. I have heard some people say we renamed it too soon. The whole town was flush with excitement after the record breaking home run race in 98, and our guy was the hero. I will always remember that last week-end of the season. A pilot friend and co-worker was killed in an accident, and I was feeling pretty low. McGwire (if I recall it right) Hit 4 homers in the last weekend of the season to set (temporarily) the single season home run record. It really helped to lift my spirits and pride in my hometown. All will always appreciate Big Mac for that. And, his name is Mac, which I also think is pretty cool! I don't mind that we have a Highway named after him. What do you think????

So if you see me on there, send me a friend request. Wait a minute, my facebook page is under a different name........D'oh!!!

<![CDATA[The Planets are Lining Up!!]]> 5743 Wed, 31 Dec 2008 15:19:20 -0700 Interesting things are going on in the skys tonight. If you like stargazing, several planets will be in view (weather permitting). Venus, Mercury and Mars are lining up! I think that is a great way to send out the old year and ring in the new. And as a traffic reporter and Captain, I am obligated to remind you.....Please Don't Drink and Drive!

                                        HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!

                                              Captain Mac

Celestial Show Set for New Year's Eve

A delightful display of planets and the moon will occur on New Year's Eve for anyone wishing to step outside and look up just after sunset.

Venus, brighter than all other planets and stars, will dangle just below the thin crescent moon in the southwestern sky. It'll be visible -- impossible to miss, in fact -- just as the sun goes down, assuming skies are cloud-free.

Soon thereafter, Mercury and Jupiter will show up hugging the south-southwestern horizon (just above where the sun went down) and extremely close to each other. Jupiter is very bright and easy to spot; Mercury is faint and harder to see, but it'll be apparent by its location just to the left of Jupiter.

Jupiter and Mercury will set less than an hour after the sun, so timing your viewing just after sunset is crucial. You'll also need a location with a clear view of the western horizon, unobstructed by buildings, trees or mountains.

All the planets, along with the moon and sun, traverse an arc across our sky called the ecliptic, which corresponds to the plane in space that they all roughly share. For this reason, you could draw an imaginary line from the general location of Venus and the moon, down through the other two planets, and the line would point to where the sun went down. This line could also initially help you find Jupiter and Mercury.

Weather permitting, you can get a preview of the sky show on Tuesday, Dec. 30. On this evening, the planets will be in nearly the same place they'll be on Dec. 31, but the moon will be midway between Venus and the Mercury-Jupiter pairing.

One last trick:

Venus is so bright you can see it during daylight if you know where to look. Given Venus' proximity to the moon on New Year's Eve, this would be an excellent moment -- just before sunset -- to use the moon to help you find Venus and gain bragging rights for being one of the few people to be able to claim seeing more than one planet during the daytime (Earth being the other one).
