Blake Shelton Surprised at Grand Ole Opry Performance

Last night was a big night in Nashville as country music returned to the Grand Ole Opry for the first time since it was devesated by the floods back in May. The night got even bigger for Blake Shelton though. After performing Hillbilly Bone with Tracce Adkins, Blake was teased by Trace about all of his tweets. The following then popped up on a screen “Blake, you’re invited to join the Grand Ole Opry.” Trace then said to Blake, “I’m officially here and have the authority to ask you to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry.” To which Blake accepted the invitation. Miranda Lambert was in the audience, smiling ear to ear.

Local boy done good living in Nashville calls WIL for update on flooding.

Remember “Roll with me” by Montgomery Gentry? My buddy Tommy Karlas native from Alton, IL was a co-writer on that song…it was number 1 on the charts for 4 weeks in a row. Well Tommy and I have become friends over the years and stay in touch. When I heard of the flooding in the south I knew I had to talk to him.

Little background…from the royalties from that one song he was able to make a dream come true…he bought a houseboat last year. God definately had a plan for Tommy, to put that dream in his head to live on a boat. When we went on vacation we visited Tommy on his houseboat. He’s high and dry!

Listen to our conversation.

Keep it movin’ Tommy at God’s speed.

Nashville video of the flood waters…how sad!

As bad as the flood of 93 was…we at least knew it was coming. So we had time to sandbag what we could…even tho as we found out the hard way…sandbags can only do so much. Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee had no idea that nearly 14 inches of rain would fall…there have even been reports of up to 20 inches in some places.

If you’d like to help text REDCROSS to 90999 or call 615-250-4300 to make a donation by phone.

Rain is a good thing…in moderation…Nashville devastated.

Rain Is A Good Thing? Perhaps in moderation, but that was not the case for the Nashville area this weekend as record rainfall and historic flooding claimed lives, destroyed property and upended virtually an entire city. The full extent of the damage won’t be known for some time, but the local Country radio response will be detailed in tonight’s Country Aircheck Weekly (5/3). Many in the Nashville music community have been displaced or had their lives dramatically disrupted, and several inquiries from Country radio nationwide have asked how they can help. For now, the best options seem to be the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s Flood Relief, the American Red Cross and – for those close enough to physically pitch in – Hands On Nashville.

Nashville Is Amazing!

The morning crew arrived safely in Nashville and has it been fun! Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare? The rabbit goes flying off making fun of the slow moving turtle, but in the end, ‘slow and steady wins the prize.’

Well on the way here, everyone gave me grief about driving the speed limit. While the other three cars were breaking the law and passing us by, even those in my own car (Annie, Brian and Donna) ridiculed my driving. What happened? All the speeders had to stop for gas and we arrived first! I had the last laugh.

We went to a private party early Tuesday evening and spent some time with Gretchen Wilson! The Pocahontas, Illinois native couldn’t have been more gracious. Justin Moore was there too! We’re looking forward to his involvement at Jingle Fest! The party was at John Rich’s private establishment where all the big names in country music hang out. It was a unique experience.

We decided to roam downtown and what an experience! Rows and rows of bars/restaurants and every one of them had a live band playing and friendly patrons. I’ll just say that downtown St. Louis could take a few tips from Nashville. The energy was amazing, the bands (for the most part) were really good and the people friendly.
